Humewood

The suburb of Humewood has been described as prestigious and peaceful – prestigious as the homes and hotels here are indeed beautiful and peaceful due in no small part to Happy Valley – a walk-through garden interspersed with lily ponds, the trickle of a fresh-water river and landscaped lawns that links directly to Humewood Beach. A stone’s throw away from Humewood is Bay World, which manages to incorporate an oceanarium and a snake park with daily shows and handling demonstrations to keep the family entertained on days when even the overhead promenade at Humewood beach fails to provide enough shade from the infamous African sun.

Humewood Accommodation Choices:

We could continue to tell you how great Humewood is, but rather you heard it from other independent and verifiable sources as well.

So, other than saying that Humewood contains great accommodation, great people and a vibe just right we invite you to read on and explore what others are saying about Humewood:

Humewood, Port Elizabeth
There is a suburb in Port Elizabeth that never sleeps. On the beachfront, it is a place where students stay up late, where tourists start their exploration of The Friendly City, and where the best cocktails in town can be found!

This suburb is Humewood.

To get to Humewood, just follow the road to the beach! You’ll know when you’re there: it’s when you are just off the freeway, past South End, and you have an amazing view of the sea.

In Humewood, the old and new in Port Elizabeth form a vibrant fusion. The lucky Port Elizabethans who live in the established blocks of flats, large old homes, and newly painted townhouse complexes, make Humewood one of Port Elizabeth’s busier suburbs, day and night. This really is a suburb where students and nine-to-fivers find a way to mix work and play.

When you visit this bustling suburb, you might notice that Humewood is probably Port Elizabeth’s most sleepless neighbourhood! It has a bustling beach, public swimming pools such as the well-known McArthurs Bath Pool Complex, and a walkway along the beach that stretches as far as the eye can see. Also in Humewood, trendy restro-bars such as Coco de Mer, the well-established Café Brazilia and Cubana, as well as the upmarket Farriagers, amongst others, will make it difficult to choose where to where to dine!

A word of warning though: here the nights often become surprisingly fun and surprisingly late, as some of Port Elizabeth’s most popular nightspots can be found in Humewood. As soon as you enter any of the popular nightspots such as Memphizz, Finnezz, or Gondwana cocktail bars, or the funky upmarket lounges in the numerous hotels, you can be sure that you’ll find a reason to stay for one last nightcap.

Whatever the reason for your visit, Humewood is sure to make you want to stay just a little bit longer.

Humewood, Port Elizabeth

The beach suburb of Humewood, a stone’s throw from Kings Beach and Humewood beach (both with blue flag status), has earned its place on the map due mainly to its challenging links golf course, ranked as one of the top ten golf courses in South Africa. That the Humewood Golf course is regarded as difficult is unanimously agreed upon – the rolling fairways and deep bunkers combined with the tendency of the wind to blow in Port Elizabeth make for a challenging round of golf.

The Mac Arthur swimming pool complex, perfect for days when the beach is out of the question, has a full-size heated swimming pool, a kids’ pool complete with water slides, and a natural temperature full size swimming pool – fun for the whole family. And the Boardwalk Casino and entertainment complex offers hours of shopping and distraction.
