February is a safe season (Desember is the holiday rush!) to just hit the road and stop at the randomest places! Make sure to stop at small places as this is where you’ll meet “real” South Africans and be able to experience the culture, openess and hospitality first hand. The garden route is full of surprises! Don’t just drive through – or you’ll miss gems like Wilderness and Sedgefield! Enjoy your trip!!!!!!! You’ll have a blast in the most beautiful country! =)

I manage a guesthouse in KZN and would say it should be okay to just book as you go along, we’ve had many such instances in the past. If you don’t manage at the first place you try I’m sure they will refer you to another place, maybe even phone around to just make it a bit easier for you, that’s what we do!

don’t bother to book in advance. february is a quiet time and you won’t be having any trouble finding accomodation.

i’ve been to SA several times and as you, i prefer to go where i want, when i want. i’ve always found very fair places to stay for very reasonable prices.
just go … and enjoy!

By Feb the madness is over so you’ll have no problem finding accommodation wherever you want. Feb also “usualy” has good weather too.

Three whole weeks dawdling along the Garden Route! I’m jealous!

Since your trip is in Febuary, I’d say it’s save to just hit the road and stay over where ever you find a place. The Big holiday rush would have passed by then.
